Abstract:

Remote Health Pharmacists working in remote health centres in Australia can contribute to better primary health care outcomes to ATSI people living in remote communities in the following manner:

Educate health care staff in remote health clinics about QUM on site, so that more appropriate provision of medication on site can occur.

– Educate patients on medications on site in a manner that is culturally appropriate and specific to an individual’s current health literacy levels so higher compliance rate of chronic condition medications occurs in remote communities.

– Reduce costs of medications for remote health centres, and the environmental impact of wasted medications at remote health centres, by ensuring only medications that are needed for patients in remote communities are ordered.

– Reduce medication stock wastage on site at remote health centres, through knowing what stock clinics utilise, so that only the required amount of Imprest items are stored at the clinic.

Ensure that all remote health centres have in date Emergency, Anaphylaxis, Seizure and Obstetric kits on site, so that clinic staff know where to access in date medications at health care centres in the event of an emergency.
