The Mental Health Commission is a Western Australian Government commissioning agency that facilitates delivery of more than $1 billion per annum of critical alcohol and other drug and mental health services across our vast State, and leads transformation across the system to better meet the needs of the community now and into the future.
Our vision is to achieve a Western Australian community that experiences minimal alcohol and other drug-related harms and optimal mental health. We commission and partner with a range of organisations in the delivery of prevention and early intervention programs, treatment and community services, and research, policy and system improvement.
As a commissioning agency, we purchase treatment and community-based services for the State from a range of providers, including non-government organisations and public health service providers. This includes WA Country Health Services (WACHS), responsible for rural and remote health services; Child and Adolescent Health Services, responsible for child and adolescent wellbeing; and the Perth metropolitan health services, including East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS), South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS), and North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS).
The Mental Health Commission also directly delivers a small number of services to the community, including public alcohol and other drug treatment services and confidential helpline support.
We are committed to developing innovative, evidence-based and person-centred programs and services that are informed by the voices of people with lived experience and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We recognise the valuable contribution that consumers, families, carers and community make to the planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation of mental health, and alcohol and other drug programs and services.
The Mental Health Commission is leading significant, system-wide reform to better serve the most vulnerable people in our community and to enable all Western Australian’s to live productive and healthy lives.
Western Australia’s mental health, alcohol and other drug sector is growing rapidly, and joining the Mental Health Commission or organisations that we fund presents exciting opportunities for professionals at all levels to be part of systemic change – including those working in frontline clinical roles, such as addiction specialists and allied health professionals, health promotion and strategic policy roles and executive leadership.
