Abstract:

Purpose:

This presentation provides an overview of the development of a contemporary workforce plan at Central Adelaide Local Health Network, designed to support the growth and development of our allied health workforce. It highlights the importance of a consumer- and workforce-centred approach to workforce planning, focusing on maximising the capabilities of our people in order to address the current and future needs of consumers and communities.

Nature and Scope:

This presentation will outline the process of designing and managing a workforce plan for allied health professionals at Central Adelaide Local Health Network, the largest health service in South Australia. It will cover environmental analysis, stakeholder engagement (internal, external, and Aboriginal partners), consumer and workforce consultation, and the development of workforce strategy recommendations.

Issue/Problem:

Allied health professionals are often underutilised in the healthcare system. Workforce planning for allied health must be proactive, responsive, and aligned with both current and future demands. This session will address the challenges and opportunities in meeting the healthcare needs of consumers from both the consumer and workforce perspectives.

Outcome/Conclusion:

The project involved consultation with 210 workforce participants and 40 consumer representatives, and collaboration with other key stakeholders. Key themes and recommendations were identified, resulting in the development of a workforce plan that builds a skilled, allied health workforce ready to meet the needs of consumers and communities now and in the future. This presentation will offer participants valuable insights into key strategies for workforce planning and lessons learned throughout the process.
