Workshop

Clinician Research Career Pathways in Allied Health

Co-presenting with Dr Caitlin Brandenburg

Embedding clinician-researchers within health services is recognised to have multiple positive benefits for both the health service and for improved patient care. However, clinicians who want to actively conduct research within their clinical roles – i.e. be a “clinician-researcher”,  face numerous challenges establishing a career within health services that allows them to combine both clinical and research work. Often, they are forced to do one or the other – not both. In this session we will discuss the current evidence and knowledge regarding the status of clinician-researcher career pathways within health services. This workshop will also discuss the work being undertaken to build a framework for clinician-researcher career development within Queensland Health.
