Abstract:
The mental wellness of healthcare professionals is paramount. Recognising the need to support healthcare professionals in developing their mental wellness and resilience, the ARISE (Achieving Resilience in Stressful Environments) Resilience Research Program was initiated in January 2023. This program aims to enhance individual well-being, improve patient outcomes, and foster healthier team environments through innovative educational strategies.
The research study began with a comprehensive needs analysis using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). We developed a 10-week app-based program that allowed for self-led learning, complemented by weekly virtual group coaching sessions to foster a community of connection. We engaged a diverse cohort of professionals, including doctors, nurses, and allied health workers. The program's effectiveness was measured using quantitative pre- and post-intervention surveys. Additionally, qualitative research was conducted through in-depth interviews to gather insights into participants' experiences and perceived benefits.
The program yielded significant positive outcomes. Quantitative data indicated a marked increase in resilience scores, with an average improvement of over 11 points as measured by the CD-RISC. There were significant reductions in stress and anxiety levels, along with a notable decrease in burnout symptoms. Qualitative feedback revealed profound insights and growth, with participants reporting increased confidence in managing work-related stress and a stronger sense of well-being.
The ARISE Resilience Research Program has proven effective in promoting mental wellness among healthcare professionals. By combining self-led learning with community support through group coaching sessions, the program has led to significant improvements. This outcome underscores the importance of integrating wellness into healthcare settings.
