Abstract:

Collecting and sharing patient stories serves as a powerful tool for clinicians, helping them enhance their approach to care and better meet the needs of patients. This presentation will showcase a film of Paul, a husband, father, stroke survivor and now a consumer representative, who shares his personal journey. Through Paul's narrative, attendees will gain insight into what mattered most to him during his recovery and how he collaborates with the Central Adelaide Local Health Network Allied Health Teams to drive meaningful change for patients and families.

Paul will co-present with Kate Dawes, Principal Social Worker, and Georgina Pearce, Senior Manager of Consumer Partnering and Community Engagement. Kate will highlight the key interventions that supported Paul and his family during his stroke recovery, including the integration and direct involvement of his children. Georgina will discuss the role of consumer representatives within the Central Adelaide Local Health Network and the significant contributions they make in improving healthcare services.

This presentation aims to inspire health professionals to enhance engagement, improve patient satisfaction and contribute to long-term positive health outcomes. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the positive impacts of consumer involvement in shaping services that truly meet patient needs.
