Abstract
A Rotational Allied Health Program (RAHP) was co-designed with the aim of embedding new graduate rotational Social Work positions within four services in SESLHD to provide an opportunity to experience the broadest possible range of clinical experiences in the early career phase. Through a supportive model, the goal is to highlight the many career opportunities available in the district, particularly for those settings where recruitment may be challenging.
The initiative was identified as a key priority for Allied health. Until now, new graduates were employed into a single service where they would get a range of experiences within that care setting. In the acute care setting for example, new graduates would rotate between clinical areas. For this program, rotations occur across services including acute, mental health, child youth and family and drug and alcohol services. This facilitates capability development and enables new graduate clinicians the opportunity to experience
Promoting and supporting new graduate clinicians to gain experience working in a range of different services within the district provides a novel opportunity to understand a wider range of consumer cohorts and positively contribute to career and service development. It supports our quest for SESLHD to become an employer of choice for allied health professionals.
This presentation will explore challenges in implementing this program, current status, and opportunities for future enhancements of the model.
