Workshop
Expanding and Affirming Allied Health Rural Generalists in Australia’s Health System
Co-presenting with Hannah Mann
This workshop has two key components. The first explores the formal and informal mechanisms used in Australia to confer respect and acknowledge leadership for Allied Health Professionals living and working in rural and remote Australia: specifically, those Allied Health Professionals who have committed to completing or who have completed the Rural Generalist Pathway. The workshop will design and propose “prestige markers” that can be used to support the further roll-out of the Generalist Pathway. The second component will explore the potential impact of other education providers becoming involved in the Rural generalist Pathway and what does the Accreditation Council need to do to facilitate this development.
As the numbers of Rural Generalist AHPs increases, it is the responsibility of our professional and local communities to acknowledge the commitment these colleagues make to the health and wellbeing of rural and remote communities. This workshop will explore what can be done either as professions, support organisations, employers, or communities as to what can we do to affirm our support for rural and remote practice. The work from this workshop will be used to create a discussion paper and be taken to the Accreditation Council and SARRAH Board for action.
